Pitch Report & Strategy

Venue-by-venue pitch analysis and how to adjust your fantasy team based on surface conditions.

Venue Pitch Guide

The pitch report is the most underutilized tool in fantasy cricket. A 5-minute read can improve your lineup decisions more than hours of player research. Here's how major IPL venues play:

  • Wankhede (Mumbai): Flat, true bounce, short boundaries. Favors batsmen and death-over hitters. Pick powerplay bowlers who can take early wickets before the ball gets too old.
  • Chinnaswamy (Bangalore): Smallest boundaries in India. High-scoring games. Stack your team with top-order batsmen and avoid expensive spinners. Wrist-spinners with variations are exceptions.
  • Chepauk (Chennai): Slow, turning track. Spinners dominate in the middle overs. Pick accumulators over hitters. Finger spinners and part-timers get extra overs here.
  • Eden Gardens (Kolkata): Balanced surface with something for everyone. Dew factor in second innings favors chasing teams. Pick more players from the team batting second.
  • Narendra Modi Stadium (Ahmedabad): Large boundaries, good bounce. Pacers with cutters and slower balls thrive. All-rounders who bowl 3-4 overs are premium picks.
  • Arun Jaitley Stadium (Delhi): Low, slow surface. Spin-friendly in the second half. Death-over hitting is harder here; prioritize middle-order accumulators.

Weather Impact

Overcast conditions: Swing bowlers get extra movement. Reduce batsman-heavy lineups and add seamers who bowl in the powerplay.

Hot and dry: Pitch cracks open, favoring spinners in the second innings. If your team is batting first, prioritize batsmen who play spin well.

High humidity / dew: Ball becomes slippery, making spin harder to grip. Teams bowling second struggle. Load up on chasing-team batsmen and death-over pacers.
